| gep audio specializes in two microphone music recordings Matthew Gephart ("gep") is passionate about the sound of true stereo recording and would like to capture your music with these time tested techniques. musical styles: True stereo recording techniques are typically used with classical music, although great results can be achieved with any style of music where a natural balance can be achieved in the recording space. From a single voice to an entire orchestra, any number of musicians can utilize true stereo recording techniques. Most of gep's recording experience is with bluegrass, folk, and jazz artists. gep is interested in working with any artists, in any genre of music, who are interested in making true stereo recordings. A/B technique: gep's favorite way to record music is with the A/B stereo technique, commonly referred to as spaced omni recording. This technique utilizes two omnidirectional microphones positioned with distance between them. The two microphones are recorded independently to their own tracks on tape. These two tracks represent the left and right channels on playback. You hear what one of the microphones picks up on the left, and the other microphone signal on the right. The natural spaciousness and depth of the recording are created by the distance between the two microphone capsules. |
